Medical Devices for Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

--------------------------------------------------------------

PD-BRACE The PD-BRACETM is a device for CCPD that holds the "patient line" connected to the cycler during the night while the patient is asleep without kinking or potentially obstructing the flow of the dialysate in and out of the peritoneal cavity. It is worn on either leg, between the knee and the ankle.

The PD-BRACETM is a thoroughly researched, high-quality device especially designed to securely hold the "Patient" line of a cycler machine during night-time automatic Peritoneal Dialysis (CCPD). Made of the most comfortable and soft materials available, it provides uninterrupted rest for PD patients on CCPD modality.

Worn in conjunction with the PD-BELTTM, distributed exclusively by HealthCare Specialties' CAPD Support Products division, its purpose is to prevent the cycler's patient line from kinking, collapsing, or interrupting the flow of fill and drain phases causing alarms, which will disrupt the patient's sleep.

After the patient line has been connected to the PD catheter, as instructed by the manufacturer of the cycler, an essential companion to the PD-BRACETM the PD-BELTTM is re-fastened around the catheter and the patient line is guided down the patient's leg to the PD-BRACETM already applied between the ankle and the knee. The PD-BRACETM is now ready to provide the comfort and security of a restful night's sleep.

The patient line is threaded through all three tabs on the PD-BRACETM, which will still leave enough slack for comfort and free movement and a snug fit for a tight hold on the patient line. The PD-BRACETM will still allow the patient line to "slide" if necessary.

The PD-BRACETM was designed and tested by PD patients using Fresenius' "Freedom PD Plus" cycler, but it works equally well with the Baxter HomeChoice machine. Ideally, the PD-BRACETM should be worn on the leg closest to the edge of the bed on the same side where the cycling machine is located. It is also recommended, for maximum comfort and wherever possible, that the PD-BRACETM be worn on the opposite leg to the patient's exit site. It can be worn on bare skin or over pajamas.
